Dr. Max Thuna opens his first herbal retail outlet in New York in 1888. A Master Herbalist, Dr. Thuna emigrated from Austria and over time opened over 25 herbal stores across Canada.

Dr. Jack Thuna, follows his father’s lead and earns degrees in Naturopathy, Herbalism and Chiropractic Medicine. From starting the first door-to-door herbal products company in Canada, to founding Emerson College of Herbology, Jack is clearly a pioneer in the field.

Al Thuna, Jack’s son, is one of the first graduates (with honours, no less) of the Emerson College of Herbology. He and his brother start Pharmetics, a vitamin and herbal manufacturer. In 1971, Al sells his interest in Pharmetics and with his wife Sandy, opens For Your Health, to bring supplements directly to the people. But its suppliers are unable to meet their quality needs, so they expand the business to include wholesale. In 1978, they sell the retail store to focus on wholesale manufacturing and distribution. Believing that the government’s mandated quality standards (GMP) are not high enough, Pure-lē Natural is launched to created higher standards and become the first certified Kosher and Parve herbal company in Canada.

Joel and Garry Thuna, having grown up with the company and the industry all around them, take over as the driving force of the company. Garry is the Information Technology Manager. Joel, who also graduated from Emerson College of Herbology, leads the day-to-day operations and can often be heard lecturing on health topics around the country.

Helping Joel and Garry is a staff of dedicated professionals that care deeply about our clients and our products. This is because they not only make our products but they use them on themselves and their families. Over one hundred years after making its first herbal remedy, the fourth generation of the Thuna family continues to produce the finest quality natural health products available.
